The National Network for the Prevention of Disabilities (RENAPRED), A.C. was constituted on May 9th 2006. It focuses on preventing impairment derived from birth defects in newly born Mexicans, and thus, in this way, improves the quality of life of boys and girls of our country. It promotes and favors preventive policies, before pregnancy and up until the moment of birth; given that birth disabilities can be significantly reduced.
RENAPRED is a foundation with nationwide presence which groups 15 state networks (Chihuahua, Durango, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Michoacán, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Veracruz, Zacatecas, Chiapas, Guerrero and Nayarit) that are fully committed to the prevention of birth disabilities.
In RENAPRED, national programs are carried out based on scientific evidence, information and technical criteria such as: Prevention Routes, the National Promoter Training Program, the National Birth Disability Prevention Congress, the RENAPRED Award, the Mexican Consensus in favor of the Consumption of Folic Acid, the “Don’t take risks, Consume Folic Acid” Campaign, the DHL- RENAPRED-SSA Agreement (to transfer neonatal metabolic screenings to the central labs of those states which have one), among others, basically to:
- Inform, raise awareness and compel the Mexican population that a high percentage of birth disabilities can be prevented.
- Inform on the measures to prevent birth disabilities.
- Train birth disability prevention promoters.
